You've booked your venue, you've found your dream dress, but you still need a cake and time is running out. Not to worry, there are several quick, fun alternatives to the typical five-layer confection. And trust us, while cakes are gorgeous, the creative suggestions below will have your guests buzzing for months to come.
Whoopie Pies: Originally an Amish tradition, whoopie pies have emerged from their humble dessert cocoon into one of the most popular treats. Move over cupcakes. In a variety of flavors and sizes, these cream-filled cakes will bring with them a taste of delicious nostalgia for your guests. Mix and match mini whoopies, classic sizes and a whopping five pound whoopie from Wicked Whoopies.
Macarons: What’s not to love about these tasty little cookies? They come in virtually any color you can think of (color coordination!) and flavors range from the crowd-pleasing chocolate to the more exotic rose petal. Pile them high by color on platters and let guests take their pick.
Cake Pops: Less labor intensive than a regular wedding cake, pops are delicious, bite-sized ways to have your cake and eat it, too. Pick your cake and frosting flavors, along with optional sprinkles or candy to roll them in, and everyone will be wondering why people bother with regular cakes in the first place.
Popcorn Bar: Popcorn doesn't just come in those stale, three-flavor tins anymore. Get a veritable rainbow of fruit flavors (again, color coordination!), decadent chocolate-drizzled options and even gourmet flavors. You can also include several bowls of fun mix-ins, such as candies, dried fruits and nuts.
Dessert Bar: Why bother picking and choosing your favorite treats to serve? With a dessert bar, serve them all, from mini cupcakes to tiny tarts. Serve small scoops of gelato or ice cream alongside the baked goods and you're guaranteed to please even the pickiest of guests.
